Brittany has been working in the outdoor industry for ten years, collaborating with organizations such as Outdoor Afro, The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and AMGA. As the co-founder and Executive Director of Brown Girls Climb, she has been climbing and backpacking for over 13 years. Brittany spent five years guiding with REI, focusing on backpacking, camping essentials, and climbing. She has also contributed to building climbing festivals like Color the Crag, All in Ice, and United In Yosemite.
Additionally, Brittany is a Leave No Trace Trainer, Wilderness Medicine Instructor, and Single Pitch Instructor Candidate. Her passion for climbing extends beyond personal pursuits, actively contributing to the climbing community and fostering safety, sustainability, and respect for the outdoors.Over the past decade, Brittany has made significant contributions as a guide, festival builder, and program creator in the outdoor realm. Her impact has been recognized by notable publications such as The Washington Post, Vice Magazine, and Wall Street Journal highlighting her efforts to break barriers and challenge stereotypes. Additionally, Brittany's story has found its way into a children's book, solidifying her role as an inspirational figure for the next generation.
Brittany's influence extends beyond the outdoor community, with engagements at prestigious institutions such as The Smithsonian Institution, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, American Mountian Guide Association, SXSW, Yale, and Tufts University. Through educational programs, workshops, and speaking engagements, she shares her knowledge and experiences to inspire others to embrace the great outdoors.
Away from the hustle of workshops and the office, you'll find Brittany climbing mountains like Kilimanjaro, Kulma Kushan, and Tahoma. Her adventurous spirit also extends to nurturing a Brooklyn-based community garden, where she serves as a dedicated garden coordinator. Brittany is a multifaceted individual, seamlessly blending her love for the outdoors with a commitment to education, representation, and community building.
